If you’ve spent 30 seconds with either Ben or Joelle, you know why we’ve called them the “Tasmanian Devil Twins” since “baby Ben” came along. They literally do. not. stop. moving.
Couple that with their need to explore every crack and corner (and every stair, cabinet and closet) of every room they enter, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
And while we love their insatiable curiosity and constant need to be on the move, it means that cooking dinner or loading the dishwasher or doing a load of laundry is extremely risky (ever turn your back on a toddler who just discovered the toilet seat lifts up? Yeeeeah, it’s not pretty).
That’s why Toddleroo by North States’ play yards and baby gates were game-changers for us. If you’ve never seen these before, they’re basically large play yards that keep your little one safe and contained while you go about your parenting business. Both the play yards and the gates come in a variety of colors and sizes, (we love the Ultimate Superyard® play yard, which is roomy enough to let our little adventurers roam around without getting into trouble), and the gates can accommodate most openings in your home – from doorways to hallways, and even extra large openings.
We use the baby gates on our stairs because they are obviously the most tempting part of the house for little, accident-prone bodies. And the play yards? We use them religiously. While we cook, while we do the laundry, while we use the bathroom. They keep everyone – baby AND toddler – contained… safely. And the best part is, Toddleroo by North States has expanded its product line to include a Superyard® Folding ABC Play Mat. These awesome mats act as padded cushions, and provide an added layer of protection on harder floors. Plus, they fit perfectly within the play yards, so it’s a win-win.
The mats are also water resistant, so spills are no match for these things. And they fold up very small, which means we can bring them anywhere. We even stuck ours in a carry-on and brought it to Florida when Ben was a baby since the hotel we were staying at was most definitely NOT baby-proof.
Listen, if we could bubblewrap our little ones, we would. But since we probably wouldn’t get away with that, the North States products are the next best thing. Between the gates, the play yards and the mats, it’s a baby and toddler safety trifecta.
