Every mom wants her family to eat healthy. That’s a no-brainer. Yet so many of us fall short once meal-time rolls around.
Why? Because we’re busy!
From carting the kids to and from extracurriculars to getting life in order in preparation for tomorrow, our days are packed. Which means that despite our best intentions, meals – particularly dinner – often become an afterthought. (Let the frozen meals and the mom guilt commence).
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
If you know anything about us, you know we’re always on the hunt for easy, delicious and healthy meals that can be made in minutes. We are big advocates of meal prepping, which involves taking an hour or two over the weekend to prepare and portion out multiple meals and snacks for the week (find out our top meal prep picks in this article). But when you’re a mom, even meal prepping can feel like too big a commitment. That’s because even the best laid plans are easily sabotaged by a screaming baby or a needy toddler. But fear not: You can spend a mere five minutes in the kitchen and still have a healthy and delicious meal to serve your family, thanks to one of our newest favorite healthy eating brand, Taylor Farms.
I tried Taylor Farms’ ready-to-eat salad kits for the first time on a whim. I was doing my usual sprint through the grocery store,
grabbing anything I could in the tiny window I get between my newborn’s nursing sessions when I stumbled upon the Asian Chopped Salad kit. Considering my days are now filled with breastfeeding, burping and diaper changes on repeat, I don’t get much time to create the elaborate healthy meals I used to, which is why I was drawn to the concept of a salad kit. Basically, it contains everything you need to assemble a healthy and delicious salad, including a variety of healthy veggies, cheeses and toppings, as well as a delicious dressing. The Asian Chopped Salad comes with a tasty and nutritious blend of fresh cabbage, romaine lettuce, carrots, celery, green onions, crispy wontons, crunchy toasted almonds and a light Sesame Dressing that is unbelievably tasty and blends perfectly with all the other flavors of the salad.
The value of getting everything I need in one bag, including a variety of fresh, ready-to-eat veggies and toppings, as well as the dressing, cannot be overstated.. especially for a super busy new mom like me. No more spending enormous amounts of time scouring the grocery store for fresh ingredients that will inevitably go bad. No lamenting over the time and money wasted when I’m too tired to prepare a meal and order takeout instead. No peeling, cooking or chopping necessary. And perhaps most importantly, no more shoving preservative-packed frozen meals down my throat as I try in vain to stave off a tantrum.
It seemed like the perfect solution for those busy weeknights when there’s barely enough time to eat, let alone cook. And I love the fact that if I want a heavier meal, I could add whatever proteins I choose. (Being vegetarian, I tossed in some grilled tofu and edamame. Non-vegetarians can add chicken or shrimp, or opt for one of the kit options that come with chicken for an even easier option). I absolutely loved the salad. It was so easy to throw together, and there were so many flavors, it honestly tasted like something I’d order when out to dinner.
Since then, I’ve tried several of the Taylor Farms Salad Kits, and they continue to be the perfect fit for my busy schedule. The kits make prepping a healthy meal in a very short amount of time super simple. They’re so easy to assemble and so delicious that they’ve become a regular on our grocery list. Plus, when we don’t finish a bag, the leftovers make great lunches the following day.
My husband’s favorite is the Chopped Caesar Salad (this is saying a lot because it’s impossible to get him to eat salad!). It comes with crispy romaine lettuce, shredded Parmesan cheese, crunchy garlic and cheese crouton crumbles, and a creamy Caesar dressing.
My favorite The new Avocado Tomatillo Crunch Salad. It’s got a crunchy blend of romaine lettuce, cabbage, carrots, green onions, cilantro, tortilla strips, black beans, Cotija cheese and fire roasted corn. The dressing is a deliciously tangy Avocado Tomatillo Vinaigrette (I legit licked the bowl because the dressing was just THAT good). It tastes like the takeout Southwest Salad I spent a silly amount of money on when I first got home from delivering my baby and couldn’t even think about cooking. In fact, I tossed in some chopped tomatoes and jalapeños just for fun. The nutritionist in me loves that there are tons of fiber-filled veggies and protein-packed black beans and cheese in this blend, which is good for me and for my breastfeeding baby.
We also both love the new Cherry Almond Blue Salad, which features a delicious and nutrient-packed blend of romaine, kale, cabbage and carrots topped with fried onions, crunchy sliced almonds, sweet cherries, and a Blue Cheese Vinaigrette that is out of this world (and I don’t usually even like blue cheese!).
So seriously… if you’re a busy mom (or dad!) and you’ve just about given up on healthy eating, ditch the drive-thru and check out Taylor Farms’
meal kits. In addition to their delicious salad kits, they’ve also got stir fry kits and heartier entree salad kits. They are all great as is, or as a healthy foundation for DIY meals.
You can find the Taylor Farms meal kits in a variety of stores, including in most Targets, Walmarts, Giants, Whole Foods and Wegmans. The Cherry Almond Blue Kit is also available at Costco.
Grab a variety of flavors… you won’t regret it!
