12 Awesome Gifts to Get Your Pregnant BFF

15-awesome-gifts-to-get-your-pregnant-bff
Let me tell you the biggest lesson I learned being pregnant: It isn’t as adorable and glamorous as the movies make it seem. Before I got pregnant, I lived in blissful ignorance. There’s sickness and fatigue, exhaustion and soreness, bloating and fluid retention. And that’s just the physical stuff. Tack onto that the emotional baggage that comes with it (a friend once told me that pregnancy is just a license to worry about everything and anything for nine straight months… she was right), and you’ve got yourself quite the undertaking. Not to diminish the amazingness of it all, or the perks of having strangers be extra nice to you, but it isn’t exactly easy. So if your friend just told you she’s pregnant, do her a solid and consider saving the cute onesie for her shower and get HER something to make life a little easier right now – or at least a little more fun.

Here are our top gift picks for your favorite pregnant lady:

1. Comfy Slippers

We love the slipper collection from California company Birdies. Touted as “the stylish flat that’s secretly a slipper,” these adorable little slippers feel both upscale and practical, and your friend will love having them throughout her pregnancy, during her hospital stay and postpartum.

2. Pretty Jewelry

ln a perfect world, we’d all enjoy a pregnancy that has us looking like ourselves with just a neat little beach ball under our shirts. But the reality is, pregnancy hormones have a mind of their own. They can leave you full of fluid or covered in acne Image result for victoria emerson jewelry(don’t even get us started on the bacne). So the chances that your bestie is feeling less than attractive these days is a pretty safe bet. Help her feel pretty when she might be feeling a little less than, by getting her some eye catching earrings, bracelet or necklace. Her clothes might not fit, but jewelry will! Our current obsession? Victoria Emerson jewelry. Everything is\ absolutely beautiful, but we can’t get enough of the beaded wrap bracelets. They’re totally eye catching and can really dress up those plain maternity dresses and tops your friend has probably resigned herself to wear. They even offer vegan options for those who’d rather forego the leather or suede. We’re loving their birthstone collection, too, which offers wrap bracelets with beads the color of each birthstone. Consider grabbing your friend one with her birthstone color and one with that of her impending baby!

3. Snacks, Snacks & More Snacks

From Alpendough’s vegan cookie dough (aka crack for sweet lovers) to Kettlecorn PopCorners, Biena’s Sour Cream and Onion Chickpeas and Bare’s Baked Crunchy Coconut, she literally had every one of my staple snacks included, and I couldn’t have been more grateful – not only because I was hangry for about 99.9% of my pregnancy, but also because it meant a lot to know that she cared enough to show up at my house with all the things that would bring me comfort during a time of such unpredictability.

4. … Somewhere to Store Said Snacks

So many times during my pregnancy I found myself out and about when extreme hunger hit… without any snacks on hand. A few times I was stuck in a meeting at work and a few other times, Nick and I were three miles in to a six mile loop at the local park when I got so hungry I thought I might pass out. Chalk it up to bad planning and I won’t blame you. But part of the problem was that there was never anywhere to put the snacks unless I felt like having my purse on me. Get your friend a stylish way to store her snacks and she’ll be eternally grateful. We love the TWELVELittle Fanny Packs, because they’re fashionable and practical. They are a great place to store snacks and pregnancy essentials during pregnancy, and are a great, hands-free option for storing mom and baby essentials once your friend’s little one arrives.

5. Funny Maternity Shirts

Image result for funny maternity shirtsHalf the fun of being pregnant is getting to wear silly T-shirts that point out the hilarity in the situation. Amazon has a ton of funny options as does Etsy. Some of our favorites? “Bumpin’ Ain’t Easy,” “This is NOT a Food Baby,” “Sweatpants Are All That Fit are Right Now,” “Does This Shirt Make Me Look Pregnant?” and “Pregnant AF.” We found all of these on either Amazon or Etsy, and all for a very reasonable price. Motherhood Maternity also has some funny options, including T-shirts that say “Sun’s Out, Bumps Out” and “Don’t Eat Watermelon Seeds.”

6. A Funny Book About Pregnancy

Since I’m a little late to the pregnancy game (I will be almost 36 when I have my first), I have the luxury of being surrounded by lots of Image result for The Sh!t No One Tells You About Pregnancy: A Guide to Surviving Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Beyondfriends who have kids. So it really should have been no surprise that the moment I shared our happy news, I was flooded with tips and resources meant to make this journey easier. The problem was that each mom offered up a totally different piece of advice, and sometimes the advice conflicted with something another Mom served up. But there was one thing they all agreed upon: The books I needed to read. And to my surprise, they weren’t the typical guides. Their top recommendations? The Shit No One Tells You About Pregnancy and Jenny McCarthy’s Belly Laughs. In fact, I was lucky enough to end up with several copies of each. Intrigued, I dove in. And man, was I glad I did. Both were entertaining enough to keep me coming back for more, but informational enough that I felt more prepared after reading them. Do your friend a favor and pass on the humor… and the education.

7.  A Prenatal Massage

Trust me on this one: There’s no better cure for all the aches and pains of pregnancy than a nice prenatal massage. Between the backaches and the additional stress on your bestie’s legs from the added weight, her body is taking a bit of a beating. My husband was kind enough to get me several massages throughout my pregnancy and    each time I asked myself why I hadn’t done this sooner. Caution: Most massage places won’t service pregnant women who are still in their first trimester, although some will if you come with a note from your doctor. Either way, having a gift card in her back pocket through the trials and tribulations of the first trimester will help carry her through.

8. A Bump Box

9. Non-Alcoholic Wine or Good Decaf Coffee

Whether she’s a caffeine junkie or a total wino, chances are good that suddenly having to give up her vice is quite an adjustment for your friend. Make the transition a little easier by swinging by with a bottle or bag of pregnancy-friendly options. One of my favorite things Brenda gave me when I first told her I was pregnant was Fre non-alcoholic wine. We are BYO junkies, so I was happy to still be able to partake in a way that was safe for my baby. Along the same lines? Project 7’s alcohol flavored gummy bears. These tasty little treats don’t actually contain alcohol, but with flavors like champagne and Moscow Mule, they’re a nice tribute to something your expecting girlfriend will be going without for quite some time.

10. Maternity Spanx

Under most circumstances we would never recommend buying Spanx for another woman Secret Fit Shaping Panty, Nudeunless you were trying to end the friendship. But pregnancy Spanx don’t come with the same implications as the typical Spanx. They’re super comfortable and offer a great second layer under dresses and skirts. They smoothe out the non-baby lumps and bumps while offering some added support for an extra heavy belly. A friend recommended these to me once dress season hit and I am eternally grateful. I ordered Belevation Maternity Shapewear from Amazon and never looked back.

11. Comfy Maternity PJs

If your friend is anything like me, the last thing she wants to spend money on during a time when money is literally flying out the door is something no one will even see. But that doesn’t mean that she wouldn’t burst out in tears if you showed up at her house with some nice, comfy  pajamas. Sleep is hard to come by for much of pregnancy, which means anything that makes bedtime more comfortable is a total win.  Just do your friend a favor and look for options that can also double as nursing PJs.
